The Marmara Region of Turkey is located in the north-western corner of the country. The Marmara Region is bordered by three other regions of Turkey; the Black Sea Region to the east, the Central Anatolia Region to the south-east and the Aegean Region to the South. On the northwest, the Marmara region borders on Greece and Bulgaria, and the border between Europe and Asia is also located within the Marmara Region. The name of the region is taken from the internal sea which is completely landlocked and connected to the Black Sea and Aegean Sea solely through straits.
The Marmara region of Turkey has a very moderate climate, making it a comfortable choice to buy property in Turkey. The average winter temperature in the Marmara Region is around 4C, with average summer temperatures of around 27C.
The Marmara region is very popular with tourists, and this is, in part, due to its comfortable weather. Turkey’s capital city of Istanbul is also located within the region.
For those travelling to the Marmara Region of Turkey, the most convenient means of travel will usually be to fly into Istanbul. Istanbul receives flights from a number of European airports. From there, you can use Turkey’s excellent bus system to travel to the property in Turkey’s Marmara Region that you wish to view. Turkey’s rail system is another option, although most travellers find buses to be preferable.
As the Marmara Region shares borders with other European countries, another option would be travel across the border, again by bus or train. If you wish to view more areas of Europe, perhaps in a view to buying property in countries other than Turkey, than this may be the most convenient way of travelling into the Marmara region. As a final note, it is also possible to rent a car and drive through the Marmara Region and even the rest of Turkey. Renting cars in Turkey requires a full driver’s license, and you must be over nineteen. This option may be the best for you if you wish to explore areas of Turkey and the Marmara Region that are off the beaten track.
Due to its high tourism and the location of the capital city of Istanbul, property in Marmara can be a little more expensive than in other areas of Turkey. However, it is still possible to find property at bargain prices in Turkey’s Marmara Region. Single bedroom properties further from the more crowded tourist areas may be available for as little as £30,000 while larger properties near to Istanbul may cost three times as much. As always, shop around before settling on a final property to buy in the Marmara Region or anywhere in Turkey.
